Krill Oil Benefits vs Fish Oil – Who is Better?
Krill Oil is the best…But Why
One of the major differences that most people notice is when they take a fish oil supplement to obtain their proper omega 3 intake is that after taking the supplement. They have a terrible aftertaste and they are correct when saying that because fish oils are harder for your body to digest which also makes your body produce gas which is never an attractive trait.
With that said, on the counter side to fish oil. When people take a krill oil supplement then they do not have a bad aftertaste because krill oil is naturally easier for your body to digest so it does not result in the fish oil burps or bad aftertaste.
Also, krill oil is generally a much higher concentrate so you do not have to take as much as you would with standard fish oil.
I swapped from fish oil to krill oil about 3 years ago now and in my opinion, it is truly a better omega 3 supplements than fish oil from just the taste alone. However, the fact that your body digests it better means that your body gets a better use of it meaning more bang for your buck.
Personally, after taking both, I would not go back to taking fish oils because I know that my body does to digest it properly. Not to discourage people from taking fish oils but if there is something better and you now know about it then why would you not try the krill oil to see for yourself the differences between to two.
I am 100% sure that if you swapped from standard fish oil to a krill oil then you will be very pleased with the results and one leading recommendation is Onnit krill oil.
My Findings regarding Omega 3
What you may not know is that some of these foods are full of fats that somewhat counteract the benefits of the omega 3 nutrient and a few examples of these foods are just about all nuts or some fish.
This leads to what most doctors these days say to do is to take an omega 3 supplement to get the full value of the nutrient truly.
You do not want to be misinformed regarding your health or even the way you are eating to maintain good health, a quick question to ask yourself is, would you eat certain foods that are recommended to have a good omega 3 intakes if you knew that those same foods would cause you to gain unwanted weight?
Benefits of Omega 3 are:
- Better blood flow (reduce the risk of build-up in blood vessels)
- Better heart health (helps blood pressure, reduce heart disease risk)
- Brain health (helps normal cognitive function, mood, memory)
- Joint health
Brain health
Omega 3 has DHA which plays a big role in maintaining normal cognitive function and health of the brain which naturally decreases. As we get older which is really apparent if you think of how easy it is for children to soak up information and as we get older it is much harder to learn or remember as easy as we once did.
Lucky for us we can supplement such as krill oil to gain to the proper DHA levels which will help support proper DHA levels to maintain good brain health.
I will say that it is important to only take what is recommended and not to overtake any supplements.
In short, if you are having trouble with your memory, with your focus, or with attention then trying krill oil is for you.
Cardiovascular Health – Obtain Better blood flow with Krill Oil
Omega 3 krill oils contain DHA and EPA which are known elements to maintain good cholesterol levels. Omega 3 krill oils are also a good antioxidant which helps break down the air that you breathe which supports good cardiovascular health and it also helps break down foods that you eat.
All of this leads to complete support for a good cardiovascular health and lower your risk of heart disease.
Joint Health Benefits from Krill Oil
In today’s everyday diet it is a challenge to maintain a good balance between omega 6 and omega 3 nutrients resulting in your joints taking the brunt of the hit from the imbalance. Taking an omega 3 krill oil helps properly balance out the omega 3 and omega 6 nutrients which will give you much better results regarding joint health and flexibility.
If you are having joint issues or your joints stay sore then it would benefit you to take an omega 3 krill oil. With any supplement that you take, you need to give a supplement 60 days to see the full results but in all honesty, 60 days is nothing when it comes to having good health.
Being that I work out quite a bit, taking an omega 3 krill oil has helped me from my joints being sore.

Interesting article on Krill oil, this is new to me I have heard of fish oil but never Krill oil until today. Interesting krill oil you need to take less than fish oil, sounds as if krill oil is your better deal.
So many benefits from this krill oil, it is a good product to add to your diet. High quality products are important when it is in the nutrition product industry, how do you know how high of a quality this product is?
Hi,
I have done years worth of research myself for the same reason that you are saying, it is very important to put only the best supplements in your body as there are so many types and fakes out there. I have been using Onnit products for years now and also looked very closely at all of their case studies on their products to determine what is the best from all stand points. Krill oil really stands out as the best supplement that you can take to aid in proper health.
Thanks,
Shane

Hi There Shane,
Who’s a pretty boy then! (sorry, could nt resist that ,is nt krill the seeds/nuts we give to budgies?)
Thanks for this article I was unaware of alternatives to Fish Oil as alternatives to Omega 3, Krill Oild seems to do the trick. But how much is the RDA for Omega 3 and DHEA recommended for healthy joints and for heart and circulation health?
Derek,
Thanks for the your interest in Krill oil, Krill oil is derived from the Antarctic sea and the amount you have to take to get the same benefits of fish oil is much lower because it is a concentrate and a much better quality so none of the after taste as well. The health benefits are about the same with Krill oil leading the way because of its concentrate and it ability to be digested easily.
Thanks,
Shane
FIsh oil has sooo many benefits I can’t even begin to name. I’m so happy that i found that fish oil helps with joint relief. I had a huge corrective surgery when I was younger and sometimes have joint problems on my left knee. It sucks to have to go through that but I guess it’s life. Using fish oils like krill oil has helped me get over the pain, especially after a long workout. Great stuff.
Wil,
Glad to hear from you and also that you have found some relief, I would recommend sue krill oil vs fish oil because of the added benefits of krill oil and also krill oil is a concentrate so you do not have to take nearly as much which helps you for nutrition and your pocket.
Give krill oil a try and I am sure that you will not every take fish oil again.
I hope this is helpful,
Shane
Thank you for the insight.
The benefits of omega 3 are undeniable. They are very common in fish and fish products. I tend to get all of my omega 3 through natural foods.
I did not know that krill oil is high in omega 3 and could be used instead of fish oils.
Is krill oil a natural product? What is it made from?
Jan,
Thanks for visiting and good to hear from you, Krill oil is an all natural supplement made from krill which is a deep sea small crustaceans similar to shrimp but are unlike shrimp as far as the benefits. Krill along with Squid oil is one of the best supplements for omega 3 vitamins but krill oil is not nearly as expensive as squid oil and still has the same benefits.
Thanks,
Shane
I absolutely agree with you that fish oil leaves an awful taste in your mouth. Up until I found your page i didn’t know what krill oil was, and had never considered alternative options. Omega-3’s are extremely important in your diet and workout plan, and can be extremely useful for weight loss and endurance. Thanks for this, I’m going to find some krill oil and try it out now.
Ryan,
Great to hear from you, I would like to recommend Onnit’s krill oil because of the value and also the coating that the gel capsule has complete makes it seem as if you aren’t even taking a pill, almost like eating candy to be truthful.
Thanks,
Shane
