Can I Gain Muscle Mass Without Weights?
It seems that as much as this question is asked “Can I gain muscle mass without weights?” that the answer is still vague or really beats around the bush when it comes to building solid muscle without going to a gym or having a large assortment of weights at your house which lets be honest, if you have children or other hobbies for yourself then it can be hard to store weights at your home. I’m not saying that it is bad to have weights or that some people don’t have them because they did, I merely saying that if you can’t afford weights or having weights around the house is an inconvenience that there is another way to gain solid muscle without spending an arm and a leg or putting yourself out.
And the answer is yes, by using slow and controlled exercises mixed with explosion exercises that you can gain long lasting solid results that will make you feel at your youngest again. To be able to look in the mirror or step on a scale and be proud of what you have worked for, you will have the people at a gym wondering what you are doing and how did you get the results that you did.
Wouldn’t you like to have people wondering how you got to where you are , especially without paying for a gym or hundreds of dollars of weights crowding your house? Of course you can as long as you have the effort.
Explaining controlled movements exercises.
One of the best ways to get hurt is to rush into any exercise thinking that we are the superman or superwoman that we think we are, that’s not to say that you aren’t but lets be honest for a minute and know that we have limits and that we need to learn them. As we do our exercises and workout routines, the limits of our body’s muscles will grow but I feel the most important thing to know is that we really don’t have a method to determine where we are from muscle group to muscle group or even deep tissue so you can easily hurt yourself if you do not do controlled movement exercises. One of the best examples of controlled movement techniques is Bruce Lee, he was known for just doing training that his body could do in a controlled manner and never pushing himself in an uncontrolled manner.
I bring this up because it is best to start out with slow controlled movements to learn how your body is going to react during that exercise, this way you learn your limits so you know where you need to concentrate on. For instance if you are going to do a set of push ups instead of rushing through the push ups and doing as much as you can, I have found that it is best that if you do the push ups slow using a controlled up and down method then you learn where your body’s real limitations are and also the true benefit of that exercise. Rushing through an exercise does not add as much value to your body as doing the exercise in a nice slow and controlled manner. The push ups was a example, this type slow movement can and should be done for every starting point of your exercise routine to develop an understanding of the proper form, proper breathing, proper posture, and where you weakness is to add value to muscle tone and not getting hurt.
Finding your weakness is not a bad thing, if fact it is probably one of the most important things that you can do to know where you could potentially get hurt if you would have done the exercise at the full 100% speed and gave it all you had. Don’t get me wrong, you can give it a 100% but make that 100% count in the right direction. We exercise to help us get better and no to hurt ourselves.
Explosion workouts and there importance.
After you have developed a method to determine your limitations and strengthened those limitations the next element is explosion exercises, it is important to note that even during explosion exercises that from time to time it is best to go back to the controlled movement exercises. Explosion exercises are widely used in athletes and helps your body’s muscles gain a heightened sense of awareness, meaning that if needed then you can perform physical activities with a better response timing and maintain that timing.
Explosion workouts are not for everyone and are often hard to do anyways if you do not do them a lot, even working up to doing explosion exercises can be hard enough but for some people this is the only way to increase size with just using your own body weight.

In my experience with both of these techniques, I rely heavily on the controlled movement training. I am no “Bruce Lee” of course but I do not put in near the effort that he did either, I’m sure that if someone had the dedication that he had then they too would be in top tier shape as he was. What I will say is that whatever type of training that you do from controlled movement training or explosion training or even a cross of between the both of them, you need to give yourself the proper rest and learn to stretch often.
As far as muscle growth or even just toning your muscles, you need to supply your body with the proper nutrients from eating right, Read my section on top rated diet shakes , this section gives you good healthy ideas in regards to shakes or you can look at my page talking about what is the best protein to build muscle, both of these links are on the this website and just aid you in you in getting a better understanding or just good healthy ideas.
Key things that help in muscle recovery are listed below are really just a start of showing examples.
The best proteins to use are:
- Cottage cheese
- Greek yogurt
- Whey protein powder
- Kefir
What protein you use generally depends again on your taste and texture preference, most people tend to use a protein powder because it doesn’t effort the taste or thicken the smoothie. My personal preference is protein powder such as what I have described in other post, the best quality protein is Onnit’s Dolce Whey because if the research that has went behind it and that it add zero taste to anything it is added to.
The extras:
- Ginger root powder
- Cinnamon powder
- Mint
- Basil
- Cacao Nibs
What extras that you out in a smoothie if any depends on what results that you are looking for or taste that you may want to add. I tend to added cinnamon if any because of the taste and the natural properties of cinnamon.
Take a look at the my section talking about core exercises for beginners of this website for a few more great ideas as well.
