Top rated diet shakes
There are a lot of pre-made shakes or meal supplements out there that really just give you to top tier items that get your attention and are hiding some of the other ingredients that are not so appealing to consumers.
Some of the names of the top rated diet shakes that you may have heard of are as listed:
- 18Shake
- GNC Lean
- Shakeology
- Yoli
- Slim Fast
- EAS Myloplex Lite
- Gatorade Recover (Protein Shake)
This is just a few to illustrate how many major brands make shakes and promote them to be something that they are not. In my protein shake review section I discuss the pros and cons of each and why I choose to go with making my own shakes.
Energy Needs
Here are a few of my personal favorite smoothies and shakes for on the go or whenever you need a boost. Having the proper energy level is key to any training weather it is for heavy weight training or my favorite, strength training.
For smoothies I use a normal blender, nothing high tech at all however it does depend what you are blending on the proper blender to use.
For my shakes I use the shake container with mixing lid.
My Smoothies
Here are 2 smoothies that I use to give me energy to start your day or for pre-workout.
The first one being the Acai Energy Boost which I learned about from watching Rener Gracie. If happen to know anything about BJJ then the name Rener Gracie is nothing new to you, he is a master at BJJ and the Gracie family also highly believes that your diet is a key element to your success at just about anything. Here are 2 of the videos that I watched years ago in regards to Rener showing me the way to a better quality smoothie Acai video and the Apple video

The best liquids to use for the base of any smoothies are:
- Water
- Diluted tart cherry juice
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Coconut Milk or water
- Green Tea
What base liquid that you use really depends on your taste and the type of smoothies that you are making. My personal favorite is coconut water because of the potassium in it and that it generally tones down any really strong or tart taste that may make the smoothie unbalanced.
The best proteins to use are:
- Cottage cheese
- Greek yogurt
- Whey protein powder
- Kefir
What protein you use generally depends again on your taste and texture preference, most people tend to use a protein powder because it doesn’t effort the taste or thicken the smoothie. My personal preference is protein powder such as what I have described in other post, the best quality protein is Onnit’s Dolce Whey because if the research that has went behind it and that it add zero taste to anything it is added to.
The extras:
- Ginger root powder
- Cinnamon powder
- Mint
- Basil
- Cacao Nibs
What extras that you out in a smoothie if any depends on what results that you are looking for or taste that you may want to add. I tend to added cinnamon if any because of the taste and the natural properties of cinnamon.
